      Shh, it’s a Secret — Musical Cryptograms

Musicians have long been told that their minds are similar to those of mathematicians. This week, we'll discover and decipher codes, messages, and meanings hidden within pieces of classical music. Some of these messages were encoded for the fun of the puzzle, while others held deep, painful meanings. Yehudi Menuhin, Part 1 (3/4/1986)

The first of a two-part conversation with violinist, conductor, and musical mentor, Yehudi Menuhin. Menuhin and author Karen Shaffer spoke with Studs in March 1986, shortly before Menuhin's concert tribute to the early twentieth century American violinist Maud Powell. This hour holds performances Menuhin recorded over the arc of his long career. and includes the artistry of Maud Powell captured during the very earliest days of recorded technology.
